In Maryland, anyone who has never had a license is required to take driver’s ed, regardless of age or experience. If you have a valid license from another country, you only have to take the Drug & Alcohol class.
-
The cost to take the 36-hour driver's ed course is $435. You may start with as little as $100 down. Click here for more info.
-
Schedules vary. Visit our schedule page for current dates and times.
-
Our office is in Essex, and we have additional classrooms in Dundalk, Parkville, Timonium, and Highlandtown (the Highlandtown classroom currently only has classes in Spanish). We also provide driving lessons in the Pasadena/Glen Burnie area, but we no longer have a classroom there.
-
You can register online for any upcoming class.
-
You can pay online (we accept all major credit/debit cards), or pay by cash or check at the Essex office.
-
You will have to get a learner's permit in order to drive, but you can take the classes without it. Anyone who has never held a license, regardless of age or experience, is required to get a learner’s permit. To obtain a permit you must take a written test at the MVA. The fee is $50, and that pays for the driver’s license test as well. You can schedule an appointment on the MVA website.
-
If you’re under 18 years old, or 18 without a diploma or GED, you must hold your permit for 9 months and do 60 hours of driving practice (in addition to the 6 hours in driver's ed) before you can take the license test. If you’re 18 WITH a diploma or GED, or 19 to 24 years old, you must hold your permit for 3 months and do 60 hours of practice. If you’re 25 or older, you have to hold your permit for 45 days and practice for 14 hours. More info is available on the MVA website.
-
It varies, but right now it is taking roughly eight to ten weeks to complete the course from start to finish. This is only an estimate and it could be shorter or longer, depending on circumstances such as when you’re available and how busy we are.
-
The course is designed to equip drivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the roads safely and responsibly. Through classroom instruction and practical driving practice, students gain an understanding of traffic laws, road signs, proper vehicle handling, defensive driving techniques, and basic vehicle maintenance. The curriculum not only focuses on teaching the rules of the road, but also instills crucial habits like anticipating potential hazards, making informed decisions, and developing a heightened sense of situational awareness. Moreover, it stresses the significance of avoiding distractions, such as using mobile devices while driving. By emphasizing the importance of responsible driving behaviors, this program plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of road safety and reducing the number of accidents on our highways. For a more detailed overview of what you’ll be studying, you can read the MD Driver’s Manual.
-
You have up to three years to complete the course. If you have not paid your tuition and finished the classes and the driving lessons within three years, your records will be destroyed and you will have to start over from the beginning.
-
We have classes in Spanish at our Highlandtown location. Driving lessons can also be taken with Spanish-speaking instructors.
-
You are allowed to miss up to four classes, but you must make them up. There is a $10 fee per make-up class. (If you miss more than four classes, you will have to start over from the beginning and will be charged $15 for each class you attended.)
-
For the in-car driving lessons we can pick up within a limited range. We do not pick up for the classes.
-
All of our cars are equipped with a passenger-side brake pedal and rearview mirror. We keep cones and reflectors in the trunk in case of emergency.
-
Yes. We are fully licensed and certified by the state of Maryland and the MVA. Our instructors are certified driving instructors in the state of MD. They all undergo a rigorous training process and a thorough background check.
-
The easiest way to schedule a test is on the MVA website.
-
We do allow people to use our cars for the test, but only at the MVA branches in Essex, Glen Burnie, Baltimore City, and Bel Air. The fee starts at $160 and increases based on time and travel requirements. For more information visit our MVA Testing page.
-
If you fail the license test at the MVA, you’ll have to schedule another appointment to take it again. If you used an ABC car for the test and want to do so again, you’ll have to pay again for a new appointment. This can be quite costly, so be sure you’re ready for the test before you go.
-
It is possible! The final hour of driving includes an evaluation on which you must score at least 80% to pass. If your instructor determines that you are not passable, you will have to return for a 1-hour reevaluation, which costs $60. You should not do your final lesson until you’re able to demonstrate that you are a safe and competent driver.
-
We offer the DIP online. After you complete the online course you also have to take a final test in person at our office in Essex. The price is $75.
-
If you have a valid foreign or international license, you do NOT have to take driver’s ed. You are only required to take the 3-hour Drug & Alcohol class, plus the written and road tests at the MVA. Visit the MVA website for more information.

No, the Alcohol & Drug class that we provide does not meet the requirements for DUI/DWI. You can try other driving schools, or alcohol/drug rehab centers.
